About
I, Joshgun Suleymanov (b. October 9, 1987, Baku), am an artist working across the disciplines of photography and cinema, grounding my visual narrative in a conceptual and philosophical framework. In my work, I create surreal and metaphorical connections between the forms of objects and the aesthetics of the human body, reinterpreting the fragility of the "living" through inanimate forms.
My artistic practice is based on a deep process born from long periods of observation. I do not see myself merely as a photographer, but rather as a director; for instance, I observe the struggle of a being against the wind for a long time, meticulously shaping the scenario of that moment in my mind. I wait until this idea fully matures, patiently searching for that "decisive moment." My goal is to capture, through my camera lens, the same perfect and resolute impact as a painter applying the final brushstroke to a canvas.
I draw my aesthetic inspiration from the depths of classical and modern literature. I am influenced by a broad intellectual spectrum, ranging from Plato’s world of ideas and the existential complexity of Franz Kafka to the philosophical depths of Nesimi. I construct my works using a "dream technique"—a purely manual, in-camera method entirely free from digital manipulation or artificial intelligence. My photography acts as a mirror that, without distorting the reality of the image, confronts the viewer with the psychological and philosophical voids beyond the physical world.
